Keele Bach Choir is recognised for presenting quality choral works to substantial audiences and is inviting new singers, male and female, to attend rehearsals.
Established by Professor John Sloboda in 1975, the choir’s original aim was to give a competent group of people from the university the chance to perform smaller works in intimate settings.
But over the years, its size and reputation has grown considerably.
Now, under the direction Matthew Willis, who took over in 2002, the choir includes around 40 voices from Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire, but is on the lookout for more.
Recent performances including Bach Mass in B Minor, Carmina Burana and Elijah saw full houses and a rapturous reception, and the ambitious programme for the coming year includes Tallis Spem in Alium, Stravinsky Mass, Handel Dixit Dominus and Mozart Requiem.
Rehearsals at Keele University Chapel take place on Thursday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. They are set to start in mid-September, with auditions, which require a certain level of sight-reading skills, taking place earlier in the month.
